What is Earth Hour?

Since 2007, millions of people across the world have celebrated Earth Hour, turning off their lights and devices and spending one hour without electricity. The World Wildlife Fund and its partners started this initiative to shed light on the environmental impact humans have on planet Earth. According to Earthhour.org, “Earth Hour aims to increase awareness and spark global conversations on protecting nature to ensure our own health, happiness, prosperity and even survival.”

After this one special hour in March, life goes back to normal, but the impact stays with us for months to come. The hope is that this hour not only impacts the environment positively in a small way (anything helps!) but also that it gets people thinking about the small things they can do each day to make a big difference.

Committed to environmental stewardship

Sterling Ranch was created with environmental stewardship top of mind. Because so much natural beauty surrounds us, we are driven to wisely manage our resources so that future generations can enjoy our stunning locale just as much as we do.

With sustainability initiatives for land planning, wise water management and energy conservation, we are well on our way to supporting our mission of being responsible stewards of our environment . . . and learning lots to get better every day!

Let’s celebrate together!

We invite you to become part of the Earth Hour movement and celebrate with us this year. Here are the details:

When: Saturday, March 27, at 8:30 p.m.
Where: Anywhere!
What: Simply turn off your devices and lights and spend an hour doing something meaningful.

Here are some ideas to thoughtfully pass the time:

  • Go on a walk with family
  • Have a deviceless candlelit game night
  • Cozy up with a book (in candlelight, of course)
  • Get outside to stargaze
  • Meditate

Celebrating Mother Earth year-round

In the spirit of Earth Hour, we celebrate the land on which we live, the water we drink and the energy we use to power our lives all year long. Find out what we are doing for community and home sustainability here at Sterling Ranch.
